British Satires No. 4285

In 1769 four candidates sought to be the Middlesex representative for the House of Commons. This caricature shows four horses jockeying for position. The riders are: John Wilkes (whose horse is riderless because he was in prison), Luttrell, Whitaker and Roche.

The 1143 written on the blanket of Wilkes' horse indicates that he got the most votes.
